Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an age requirement?

There is no age requirement to climb; however, to belay in our facility you must be 16 or older and 12 years old or older to use the auto belays without an adult.

Is there a weight restriction?

Yes and No. In order to use our 5 TruBlue autobelays, you must be within the manufacturer’s limits.  Our autobelays have an allowable weight range of 22 lbs. (10 kg) to 309 lbs. (140kg).  For roped climbing, so long as you can safely wear a climbing harness, you can climb.  Our rental harnesses will accommodate up to a 44 in. waist.  If we determine that a harness does not safely fit, you cannot climb.

What should I wear?

You should plan on wearing comfortable fitness clothing that you can move in.  Longer shorts or pants/leggings are recommended to provide additional comfort while wearing a harness.  Please keeps in mind that climbing involves moving ropes and other hazards, so please consider keeping hair up, and removing any rings, watches, or other jewelry to prevent injury.

I have never been to your facility. What can I expect?

Our climbing gym offers a wide range of options, aimed at all levels of climbers.  We have top rope climbing, lead climbing, and bouldering.  In our top rope area, we have 5 TruBlue autobelays available, and in our lead climbing area, we have an arch that traverses the ceiling of the building.

Do I need a reservation or are walk-ins welcome?

If you would like a lesson or to bring a group, reservations are required so we can make sure we have staff and belayers available for you.

What is a belayer/belaying/autobelay?

A belayer, the person who is belaying a climber, is managing the rope for a climber and ensuring the climbers safety in the event of a fall.  Falling is a normal part of rock climbing; hands sweat, feet slip, and sooner or later you will lose grip on the wall, but with a good belayer, a fall is contained to a very short distance, and usually poses very little risk of injury. An autobelay is a device which belays a climber without another person involved.  We use TruBlue autobelays, which allow a climber to clip in and start climbing without the need for a second person.

Can your staff belay for me?

If you have a scheduled group or lesson, you will have a staff member and belayers assigned to you during your session.  We do not have staff readily available to belay walk-in customers.  If our schedule permits, you can rent one of our staff members, to belay you, for $35 per hour.  As our schedule is usually busy, we highly recommend calling ahead at (330) 655 5489 to confirm availability.  Alternatively, we would be happy to teach you to belay in one of our classes.

I would like to learn how to belay, what are my options?

We would be more than happy to teach you how to belay.  Please sign up to take one of our classes.  In an effort to ensure that you are properly and safely trained, only our employees are permitted to teach you how to belay in our facility.

I already know how to belay; do I still have to take a class?

Nope. If you already know how to belay, you can take our belay test with one of our staff members so we can make sure your technique is safe.  The test includes a certification card to hang from your harness.

Do you offer rappelling?

No. At this time we are unable to offer any rappelling.

I want to come climbing with my family. What are my options?

We offer a family lesson where the kids can climb while the parents learn how to belay.  We feel this is the best option for families new to climbing because once parents are belay certified, you can come climb anytime with a day pass or membership.  If your children want to climb but you do not, you can purchase day passes for the children and assist them with our 5 autobelays.  For their safety children may not be left unattended while climbing or while in our facility.

Can I bring food?

Feel free to bring food or drinks with you, but we ask that you do not bring it our onto our landing surface.  We also have a drink cooler and some small snacks available for purchase. For groups, we have picnic tables on the balcony you will have available to you.  Please note that we do not have a refrigerator or freezer available.  It is also your responsibility to bring any cups, plates, serving utensils, etc. that you might need.  Under no circumstances is alcohol permitted in the facility.

What is your cancellation policy for my scheduled group or lesson?

In the event that you wish to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you may do so with a minimum notice of 72 hours.  Any cancellations within 72 hours of the scheduled appointment will forfeit your deposit.  Requests to reschedule with less than 72 hours notice cannot be accommodated.
